Kawakaisho

“Kawakaisho” was the center of the river crossing system ,
determining the river crossing fee based on the depth of the Oi River, managing the river crossing workers .
They were called “Kawagoshi-Ninsoku”.

After the establishment of the Kawagoshi system in 1696 during the Edo period ,
travelers purchased "Kawa-fuda”(river tickets)  and “Dai-fuda”(vehicle tickets) here and crossed the Oi River.

During the Edo period, the Kawakaisho was located to the east of its current location,
on the opposite side of the current  “Fudaba” (ticket office).
However, after several relocations after the Meiji period, it moved to its current location in 1970.
